TANK TESTING

OYD's proprietary "fast displacement" hulls with our highly optimized bulbous bow were developed by conducting indepth tank tests on select hull forms. Our tests, with and without the bulb, determine the exact drop in resistance and effect of the bulb in various sea states in addition to basic resistance.

Our refined bulb provides increased efficiency throughout the entire speed range, reducing resistance between 7 to 15% (depending upon speed and load). Now on our fourth generation and over 15 years of continuous refinements, our "fast displacement" hull is second to none in seakeeping and efficiency when compared to other hulls with similar length/beam ratios and displacements. Yachts we have designed and built with this superb hull form now range from 73' up to 174' accumulating hundreds of thousands of sea miles and cruising to the farthest corners of the world.

We also measure roll decay. Data from our roll decay tests are also fed to companies like Quantum Marine, enabling them to further refine their stabilizaton systems.

Tank testing is recommended if there is a notable modification from one of our existing hulls or in the development of a new hull form. Tank testing is a logical choice due to its relative low cost to obtain accurate data for your specific project.
